Family

Well, I would have to say that between work and family, I really haven't had much time to do all of the Free-MoN work I've wanted to.  I will have to say though that even though I haven't been able to do what I've wanted to, others have been "Full Steam Ahead"!

With that, I was able to bring a few things home from the club and work on in the garage.  I was able to get it done in a week and taken back to the club to work on there.  So, all in all, I hope that the next few months will be better, but soon my family of three will be 4.  With a new one in sight for December....I won't be able to get away over the holiday like I want, but oh well.  I keep telling myself, "when the last one is old enough..."

Until that day, I'll spend most of my time with my family and let this hobby be 3rd.

Baby got Curves....

Well, I was able to take a few hours and go to the NWX Club House and work on building some modules.  I've been wanting to make some curve modules for quite sometime now, but I really never had the time with everything going on with the other modules.

So, I almost have the two new curves ready for legs and facia board.  One is a 45 degree and the other is a 40 degree curve.  Not quite a 90 degree curve, but that is the beauty of Free-MoN.

A couple other members were working on their modules as well.

A Trip to Canada

Well, I had some work reasons to travel up to Calgary and Banff in Alberta, Canada.  I had a good trip, but I was only able to catch the train via my camera or phone a few times.

Here are some pictures:

The Bug of Free-MoN

Friday was a day off from work for myself.  FINALLY!!!!!  NO PHONE CALLS FROM WORK.

Anyway, NWX N Scalers had a good work session and we were able to get some legs and pockets built and a new module stood up.  (we have a bit of work still on it to get the legs where we want them, but we have the basic idea down and now we can produce more.

As for the bug....two more people are building modules now!

One of them will be building 4, 2ft x 4ft modules to be the backbone for his Houston Ship Channel.

The other member is going to do 4, 3ft x 4ft modules to build a Steel Mill with all the ovens, mills, power house, etc.  He is even trying to figure out how to get the "high line" to work out.

Now, we have more member that hasn't been able to make it to work sessions, but I hope that we will be able to give him the crossing module for him to decorate (scenic).

One of the other members isn't sure what he is going to build, other than ships for the ship channel....but, this guy is a model builder....he will study it and then build it.  His work is great!

Ah yes, myself, I will be working on 2 curves so we can kick around obstacles in our path.  After those, I want to build something with my 4 Coal Flood Loaders.  Not sure what it will look like, but that's ok.  I'd rather get some of the fundamental modules done so we can have others made.

Well, thanks for stopping by.  I hope over the next few months I'll be able to post more.

Easter Weekend Work

Well, I'm glad I had a long weekend.  I was able to get a lot done....as you saw in some of my posts earlier.

This is the last update for the weekend.  I was able to get 4 of the 6 fascia boards installed. Now all I have to do is get the other two in. Then it will be time to paint them.  After that I will put in the UP5s and wire them up.

Two more modules to build after this as part of the siding, but I might digress just a bit to build a loop with coaling operations on it.  Could be fun...will definitely need help from John H. (ideas and Structures) and Jon R. (wood-crafter and all around good guy...even if he is an HO Scaler).  So, more to come, more to come.

I am really thinking about NMRA 2013....taking some Free-MoN modules with me.  My wife might take my son to visit family in Kansas....we'll see....we'll see.  If so, I might be able to make it.  Just have to see about costs....

Before I forget, if you follow this and know some N scale folks in the Houston area that are looking for something other than N-Trak/T-Trak....suggest this blog to them.  I would very much like to add to the group of Free-MoNers in the Houston area.

Thanks for dropp'n in!

Crossing Over

As the title might suggest...yes, a bit of crossing is going to happen.  John H. and I worked this morning on what we think will be a great module.  We will put 1/2" foam over the 1/2" plywood.  Then place a 6" tall box made of 3/4" plywood around it to match up to the other modules.  Also, build an internal support structure to keep it level and just even with the 3/4" plywood.  It will look similar to my end-plates.

Here are some pictures of the mock-up.  Oh, and we also tested super-elevating the curve and it works beautifully.

You can see the slight super-elevated curve.

An areal shot.

Also, had a good laugh when we were out getting some other supplies.

Glad the dog was enjoying it as much as we did.

Thanks for stopping by.

Shift Work 2

Ah, only a week ago I started the "shift" module.  I now have track down and wires run.  All I have to do now is scenery work.  I hope to have this done by the end of the month.  (Good Friday is a day off....might use it to work on this)

After this module is done...I have two more to do.  They should be straight forward for the most part.  That should give me a 12' passing siding...or take a module out..and it is smaller....build some more and make it longer.

Here are some pics.

Also, Grant (my son) and I went on a car ride Saturday to see what work has been done on the Grand Parkway (TX 99).  Wow....are these guys busy.

UP Rail Bridge over Grand Parkway.  Will soon go up and over the tracks.
